An electric hydraulic pump unit typically consists of an electric motor, a high-pressure pump, a hydraulic reservoir, a valve block and an operator control. The motor drives the pump, which draws oil from the tank and delivers it to the connected actuators. Valves control whether a cylinder extends, holds or retracts (in double-acting systems).

Many units feature a multi-stage design: a low-pressure stage with high flow for rapid approach, and a high-pressure stage for the actual working operation. This combination provides short cycle times together with precise force and pressure control.
