Design and operating principle of wedge and flange spreaders

Wedge spreaders typically consist of one or two wedge-shaped jaws and a drive unit. Mechanical versions are operated by a screw or lever, while hydraulic versions use an integrated or external hydraulic cylinder. As the wedges are driven into the gap, the components are pushed apart in a controlled manner.

Flange spreaders are specially designed for flanged joints. The tool is inserted between the flanges and then spreads them step by step, allowing gaskets to be removed and installed safely. Defined contact surfaces ensure that forces are introduced evenly into the flange.
