How lock nut hydraulic cylinders work

Lock nut cylinders operate in the same way as conventional hydraulic cylinders, generating lifting force by hydraulic pressure in the working chamber. After the load has been lifted to the required height, the lock nut is screwed down along the external thread on the cylinder head and tightened against the support surface. The load is then carried mechanically by the nut and thread.

In this configuration the load remains safely supported even if the hydraulic pressure is switched off, released or lost due to a malfunction. The cylinder effectively becomes an adjustable support jack with a mechanically secured height.
