Design and operating principle of bearing and hub pullers

A typical puller consists of a central forcing screw and several jaws that grip behind the part to be removed. As the screw is tightened, the pulling force is applied axially to the shaft and the component is gradually released from its seat.

Hydraulic pullers use a hydraulic cylinder instead of a purely mechanical screw to generate the pulling force. This provides much higher forces with smooth, controllable action – a major advantage on large or tight-fitting bearings and hubs.
