Construction and types of hydraulic hoses

A typical hydraulic hose consists of an inner tube, one or more layers of steel wire braid or spiral reinforcement and a wear-resistant outer cover. Depending on the construction, hoses are rated for different pressure classes, from standard high-pressure hoses up to multi-spiral types for very demanding applications.

Typical applications

Hydraulic hoses are used wherever movement or vibration has to be accommodated:

When choosing hydraulic hoses, pay attention to:

• maximum working pressure and required safety margin
• inside diameter and expected flow rate
• fluid type and operating temperature range
• type of hose ends – e.g. threaded fittings, quick couplers, swivels
• environmental conditions such as abrasion, weather and chemicals
