Design and operating principle of flange alignment tools

Flange alignment tools are usually attached to existing bolt holes or the outer rim of the flange. Using spindles, wedges or hydraulic cylinders, a controlled force is applied to move the flanges into the correct position relative to each other.

Depending on the design, the tools allow flanges to be shifted, rotated or slightly tilted until the bolt pattern and sealing faces are properly aligned. Only then are the gasket and bolts installed and tightened to the specified torque.
